Does the 2023 Ford Maverick XL have cruise control?

The Ford Maverick is a crew cab compact pickup truck that has been on sale since 2022. Coming with four doors and a comfortable cabin that could accommodate five passengers with utmost comfort, the Maverick has been one of the go-to monikers for the folks who want the versatility offered by a pickup truck without compromising on the fuel efficiency and refinement offered by a similarly priced SUV.

Launched for a base selling price of $20,995 and coming in with five trim configurations, the 2023 model year receives quite a lot of changes from the outgoing model. The Tremor Off-Road trim has been included in the trim lineup and receives a long travel suspension and more rugged design. Ford also offers some mechanical upgrades and changes to optional features as well. Competing with the likes of the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Honda Ridgeline, here are 10 things you need to know before buying the 2023 Ford Maverick.

10/10 Perfect Interior Design

We have always been a fan of the Ford Maverick's cabin design. With no major changes to the design language, this 2023 model retains the ethos of the older models very well. Get into the Maverick and you would be greeted with reasonably soft touch injection molded plastics and a chunky leather-wrapped steering wheel, both of which help to uplift the cabin well.

Coming with desert brown or black interior colors depending on the trim that you choose, we admire the neatly integrated contrast elements on the dashboard and door cards coupled with classy infotainment and digital gauge display. The straightforward design of the dashboard goes well with the overall exterior proportions too.

9/10 2.5-liter Inline-4 Motor Comes Standard

The 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline-4 motor mated to an electric motor comes as standard with all the trims of the Ford Maverick and this powertrain punches out a reasonable 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. The power is put down through the front wheels and the transmission duties are handled by a CVT automatic.

Even though this hybrid powertrain is pretty decent when it comes to towing and fuel efficiency, it is not the best in terms of outright acceleration. The 0-60 MPH comes in about 7.7 seconds and the quarter-mile takes close to 16.2 seconds. However, the base motor of the Santa Cruz takes even more time than the Maverick in the acceleration front.

8/10 There Is An Optional-Turbocharged Engine

Apart from the standard 2.5-liter hybrid motor that is offered as standard across the five trims, you can also opt for the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission and FWD drivetrain. You could also get the optional AWD drivetrain with this turbocharged motor.

This engine is rated at 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque and that makes it much faster than the base motor. The 0-60 MPH can be done in 5.9 seconds, and it has a top speed of 110 MPH. This makes the 2023 Ford Maverick slightly faster than the Hyundai Santa Cruz with the turbocharged inline-4 motor, as it managed to do the 0-60 MPH run in 6 seconds.

7/10 Adequate Towing Capacity

Being a pickup truck, towing and payload capacity has to be some of the biggest needs of the ride. Thankfully, the 2023 Ford Maverick isn't bad in this regard. With the hybrid inline-4 motor under the hood, the 2023 Maverick offers 1,500 lbs of payload capacity and 2,000 lbs of towing capacity.

However, the turbocharged inline-4 motor offers superior towing and payload capacity with the optional towing package. The towing capacity is rated at 4,000 lbs with this motor. The Hyundai Santa Cruz offered an even better towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.

6/10 XLT Trim Is The Most Value For Money

The base XL trim of the 2023 Ford Maverick is a bit too spartan as the features list is quite small. Along with that, this trim is also mediocre when it comes to the plushness offered by the cabin. However, the second lowest XLT trim is quite value-for-money and comes with a decent list of standard features.

The XLT trim comes standard with the features like 17" aluminum wheels, cruise control, powered side mirrors, SecuriCode keyless entry system, CoPilot 360 Technology, single-zone air conditioning, and an 8" touchscreen infotainment system. Most of the optional exterior and interior features are reasonably priced as well.

5/10 Turbocharged Engine Isn't The Most Frugal

The turbocharged inline-4 motor is a $435 option and the performance and towing capacity are quite impressive. However, the fuel efficiency does take a hit and that makes it not the most preferred option for those who want a frugal work truck.

2022 Ford Maverick Compact PickupFord

With this powertrain under the hood coupled with the AWD drivetrain, the 2023 Ford Maverick offered a combined gas mileage of 29 MPG. The fuel tank capacity of 13.8 gallons is the worst of the compact pickup truck segment and that does take a hit in the tank range front.

The base 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine mated to the single electric motor makes for a frugal daily driver. This motor helped the 2023 Maverick to do a whooping 42 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highways, equating to combined gas mileage of 37 MPG.

With the same 13.8-gallon fuel tank capacity as the trims with the turbocharged inline-4 motor, the Maverick hybrid could do 579 miles in the city and 455 miles on the highways with a full tank of gas.

3/10 Roomy Interior

The 2023 Ford Maverick is a crew cabin pickup truck, and it could comfortably accommodate five passengers with no problems. The front seat offers 40.3" of headroom and 42.8" of legroom, making it more spacious than the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Honda Ridgeline for the front seat occupants.

The wide armrest coupled with well-bolstered seats is a plus point. When it comes to the rear seat, the overall space turned out to be much superior to the bigger Toyota Tacoma Double Cab and Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab. The cargo capacity of 33.3 cu ft offered by the Maverick is pretty decent too.

2/10 Most Of The Driver-Assistance Features Are Optional

Some of the driver-assistance features are part of the Ford CoPilot 360. This includes automated emergency braking, collision mitigation system, and reverse camera. Many safety features like AdvanceTrac, airbags, ABS with EBD, tire pressure monitoring system, and side impact beams are onboard too.

However, if you need the features like lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control system, you would need to get the optional packages which would drive up the price considerably. Unfortunately, the Hyundai Santa Cruz comes loaded with most of the driver-assistance techs as standard.

1/10 Basic Warranty Package

The standard warranty package offered with the 2023 Ford Maverick is decent for the segment. The limited warranty is covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles and the powertrain warranty is covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles.

If you get the hybrid powertrain, the hybrid component warranty is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles. But complimentary maintenance is not offered with the Maverick. However, the Santa Cruz Offers a much superior warranty coverage than the Maverick.
