Is EcoSport a good car to buy?

Had this car for a year now and our first family car.

Pros - good car handling, good engine response (sometimes) when engine is hot, fuel economy (spends $200 per month, everyday driving to work Liverpool to Camden), good boot space, auto head light, rear sensor and auto wiper.

Cons - Agree with others that the engine and gear box are sluggish (which I highlighted don't expect much), after 6 months interior starts to rattle when going to rough road, engine shakes when pressing accelerator from slowing down, slow or sluggish on the get go ...

Read more(after full stop), and no satnav/gps for titanium range. Overall we are still happy with the performance as a family car, but don't expect it to run like a performance car as you will be disappointed. The 1.5 petrol engine do helps a lot in when i comes to fuel economy as we are just spending slightly over $50 a week driving from home to work.

Ford’s entrant into the small crossover segment is called the EcoSport, and is distinguished by the fact that it’s built in India for our market.

The entry level five-door SUV, Ecosport Ambiente priced at POA is powered by a three-cylinder 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol while the Ecosport Titanium, priced at $26,950 is powered by an 82kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine driving all four wheels, and both are backed by a six-speed auto. It competes in the same space as the Mazda CX-3 and Honda HR-V, and although it's a lovely little thing, lacks the sales traction of either rival.

  • What are the pros and cons of a 2018 MG ZS?

    ZS pros include cheap pricing, an easy driving experience and a comparatively spacious interior compared to other direct rivals like a Mazda CX-3. The dash is pleasant, there is a decent amount of equipment and the controls are all simple to use. It should also be fairly inexpensive to run and service, though earlier ZSs like yours require six-monthly rather than 12-monthly service intervals.

    There are two engine options - a 1.5-litre four-cylinder model with a four-speed auto on the base Excite, or a 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder version on higher-specification Excite Plus and Essence grades with a six-speed auto. Note that the latter powertrain is more expensive to service.

    Plus, there's still a fair chunk of the manufacturer's warranty left, which is seven years, while capped-price servicing is also offered.

    But the ZS does not offer AEB Autonomous Emergency Braking, so only rates a four-star ANCAP crash-test rating.

    Additionally, the ZS's suspension is on the firm side in terms of dealing with road bumps, which might upset some occupants, yet there is not much of the 'fun factor' in regards to steering and handling finesse that rivals like the CX-3, Suzuki Vitara, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Venue, Holden Trax, Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Kona offer in spades.

    We've also heard complaints about the interior's perceived quality being sub-par, cabin storage isn't generous and Android Auto isn't supported (though Apple CarPlay is).

    Finally, the ZS' resale value trails all of the aforementioned competitors by a significant margin, meaning it's on track to be worth less when the time comes to on-sell it.

    The BL model, which was introduced in October 2017, doesn’t have a dual-clutch auto; it has a regular automatic transmission. The BK that preceded it did have a dual-clutch auto.

  • Known problems with Ford Ecosport?

    I'm not surprised Ford wouldn't reassure you that the transmission in your car won't give you any trouble in the future. Realistically, they can't do that, at best they could only hope it won't give you any trouble. No one can predict what might happen, and unfortunately the reputation of the cars fitted with the terrible Powershift transmission has taken a hit with buyers.

  • CX-3 too pricey?

    The starting price of the CX-3 is cheaper than its rivals at $19,990, so it should not be as expensive as you think. Of your other three, the S-Cross is boring but the only one I would remotely recommend.
