Consider this: In 2015 alone, Call2Recycle Inc., North Americas largest consumer battery stewardship organization and a Best Buy recycling partner, achieved a record-breaking 12.6-million pounds of batteries collected from thousands of drop-off locations across the United States. The organization estimates thats a fraction of what could be collected if more people knew about battery recycling options.

Batteries help power our daily lives and popular gadgets, but they dont last forever, so they should be recycled when they no longer hold a charge, says Linda Gabor, VP of Marketing and Customer Service at Call2Recycle. Taking a little time to responsibly recycle them keeps batteries out of landfills and puts components to good use.

Collection bins at every Best Buy big box store make it easy to conveniently dispose of rechargeable batteries commonly found in laptops, digital cameras, game consoles, MP3 players, tablets and phones. These include battery backups (UPS), and button, cellphone, laptop and rechargeables.

Once the batteries are collected from Best Buy stores, Call2Recycle sends them to its providers for sorting by type and chemistry. From there, they are then moved on to reputable processors. Recovered materials can be used in new products, such as stainless steel eating utensils and golf clubs, as well as new batteries.
