The terrifying Saw franchise is set to return in October 2023 as the tenth film in the gruesome horror series confirms a release window.

Saw 10 release date 2023

Fans of the Saw franchise can get excited as the tenth entry into the gore-infested horror series has a release window.

News of the upcoming film first came to light in an article by Bloody Disgusting, which also states that studios Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures will once again be teaming up to produce the film. Familiar face and beloved Saw franchise member Kevin Greutert will also return to the director's chair. Greutert is most notable for his work on Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter, also serving as an editor for the first five films, along with 2017's Jigsaw. The movie is scheduled to release in October 2023.

While details of the movie are largely unknown, Twisted Pictures has promised to create a unique, thrilling experience with bizarre new traps and an original storyline that will captivate viewers. "We have been listening to what the fans have been asking for and are hard at work planning a movie that Saw aficionados and horror fans alike will love," said Oren Koules and Oren Mark Burg, producers of the Saw franchise. "And part of that is giving the reins to Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI, which is still one of the fans' favorites in the entire series. More details will be revealed soon."

The announcement of Saw 10 comes a little over a year after the 2021 release of Spiral: From the Book of Saw, the ninth installment in the mainline Saw series. The film, which features notable actor and comedian Chris Rock, was initially set to come out in May 2020. However, it was pushed back by over a year due to concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic. The horror flick received mixed reviews, with many critics divided on the success of the franchise's new direction. Spiral also performed poorly at the box office, making only $40.6 million on a $20 million budget.

Saw is a horror franchise created by filmmakers James Wan and Leigh Whannell that was first released in 2004. The franchise mainly revolves around the murders committed by serial killer John "Jigsaw" Kramer and has become notorious due to its use of violent and bloody torture devices. These contraptions are mainly used on unsuspecting victims that Kramer sees as corrupt or not appreciative of life. Despite receiving mostly mixed and negative reviews, the series is immensely successful, grossing over $1 billion worldwide and cementing the Saw franchise as a baseline for many fans of the horror genre.

The tenth Saw movie does not yet have a release date.

Like music to our ears when we saw the news today as Tobin Bell returns for Saw 10 and all is well in the Saw universe once again.

It really isn’t Saw without Tobin Bell and whilst Spiral took the franchise in a unique direction it garnered mix reviews from die-hard Saw fans. Even Jigsaw didn’t cameo Tobin until the end and whilst a respectable film in its own right we need to go back to Saw and only Saw.

Tobin Bell is set to star with Kevin Greutert (Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter) directing.

It is currently unclear how Tobin will be integrated into the story but after his death in the third movie, it seems flashbacks or an alternate story may be in the works to include Tobin in a more involved roll.

Fans want new traps, new mysteries and further pieces of this long-running puzzle to present themselves. Saw isn’t just a torture porn movie, it has depth and is beautifully written and whilst some films go off tangent a little bit they could keep making these movies until I’m 90 and I’ll still watch them!

Tobin Bell returns for Saw 10. It feels crazy just saying that!

The press release read as follows:

The return of Bell to the franchise furthers Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures’ goal of a film that captures everything Saw fans love about the franchise, while also keeping them guessing with all-new traps and a new mystery to solve.

Commenting on the announcement, Saw franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said, “What a thrill to be reuniting with Tobin. His performance as John Kramer is part of the magic that made this franchise a phenomenon and his character is an active part of this film”

Stay tuned for October 27, 2023 as a new Saw movie will be in the cinemas!

Saw 10 release date 2023

After plenty of teases for its development, Saw 10has officially been confirmed and set for a Halloween 2023 release date with a previous franchise director at the helm. Following the financially successful 2017 revival, Jigsaw, the Saw franchise continued with last year's Spiral: From the Book of Saw, a spinoff starring Chris Rock and based on a story idea from the star. Despite more mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, the film was a modest box office success, grossing over $40 million against its $20 million production budget.

Even prior to Spiral's modest success, a Saw 10 film was confirmed to be in development at Twisted Pictures, with franchise director Darren Lynn Bousman noting it to have been premature and keeping mum on whether it would continue the story of Rock's film or the mainline series. Josh Stolberg, who penned the scripts for both Jigsaw and Spiral, has offered behind-the-scenes teases of the sequel's development over the past year, teasing that it was his favorite film in the franchise that he's written yet and teasing that fans of Tobin Bell's Jigsaw would be very pleased. Some five months after Stolberg's last update, audiences are finally getting new word on Saw 10.

The Wrap has brought word that Lionsgate is officially moving forward with Saw 10 alongside franchise producers Twisted Pictures. Kevin Greutert, who helmed the sixth and seventh installments in the franchise, is back to direct the new sequel on a script from series vet Josh Stolberg. Lionsgate has also set Saw 10 for an October 27, 2023 release date, just in time for the Halloween season.

Tobin Bell as Jigsaw

In addition to the release date and director announcement, producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules teased that Saw 10 will include what "fans have been asking for" and that they are working with the creative team to plan a movie for franchise fans and genre lovers alike. The duo's promise seems largely in line with Stolberg's previous tease in December that Tobin Bell's Jigsaw could make his way back to the fold for the franchise, a character many have been eager to see return, even if it further convolutes the timeline of the series. With the sequel now confirmed to be moving forward, it will be interesting for fans of the franchise to see whether the 80-year-old face of the movies will be back.

Kevin Greutert's return to the director's chair for Saw 10 may come as welcome news to fans of the franchise and critics alike, given his first outing, Saw VI, still sits as the second-best-received chapter behind James Wan's original film. That being said, given the director was behind the worst-received installment in the series, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, some may find themselves hoping that Stolberg's script combined with Greutert's direction could lead to one of the best yet. Only time will tell when Saw 10 hits theaters on October 27, 2023.
