hello there friends, As far as I am aware patch 11.18 was released (or scheduled to be released) on live servers on September 9th, it's currently September 13 here in SEA (where Garena handles the distribution of LoL) and patch 11.18 has yet to be deployed. Regardless of what everyone's opinions may be on the patch itself, I think it's a bit unfair to delay the patch by 5 whole days for a whole region without prior notice AND without an expected release date. If anyone has any information regarding when Garena may release the patch please let us Garena players know because this whole "being an entire patch behind" thing is starting to get kinda ridiculous. What’s a ‘Garena’?No it’s not a female Garen. Garena is a game publishing and developing company founded in 2009 and based in Singapore. They originally published free PC games like HoN, FIFA Online, LoL, … but has since moved on to primarily publishing Mobile games such as Free Fire, Call of Duty Mobile, Arena of Valour. Riot started out as a small studio and needed Garena to help publish LoL in South East Asia. They signed a 10-year contract in 2010 and renewed it in 2020. However Riot stated that they would not publish other future titles on Garena for SEA market if they could afford to while keeping the partnership with Garena in LoL. Garena vs other Riot servers
Most notably, there was an incident in 2015 where crypto mining malware was installed in Garena LoL clients. Yikes. Why does Riot still work with Garena?The fact that Riot won’t be publishing their other titles through Garena does say something. But it’s a hassle to set up new SEA servers, migrate all the data and maintain, staff, etc. Garena is also owned by Tencent and making a lot of money through their gacha system, so why bother? Just let SEA players suffer. There will probably be a patch tomorrow as it’s Tuesday. But there sure won’t be any fixes to Garena any time soon. What patch is LoL on right now?What Is The Current LoL Patch? Currently, we're on League of Legends Patch 12.21. Compared to previous patches this is a rather small patch with some small champion buffs and nerfs. Riot is focusing all their energy on the preseason 2023 updates, hence why champion balance issues are rather small.
Can you still play LoL in Garena?After players kick off the account linking process in November they can continue to play League via the Garena client until early January 2023. However, starting in January, Riot servers will open and all players can access League on the Riot multi-game client.
