The cohesive paint shades will bring a sense of safety and joy to your home.
If you're thinking about upgrading your home's décor to bring a comforting vibe to your spaces, consider refreshing your paint. Keep Valspar's just-debuted 2023 Colors of the Year in mind when you do: The paint company announced a 12-shade range collection that evokes "comfort, acceptance, and joy," the brand wrote in a press release.
While curating the color range—which includes everything from muted hues, like creamy white and soft brown, and Earth tones, such as blue and green—Valspar's color experts considered a "specific facet or emotion of life" that relates to the home. The great outdoors played a key role, too: "By turning to nature-inspired design, this year's collection is all about finding new comfort, embracing a flexible lifestyle, rediscovering joy, and leaning into the growing DIY movement," continued the company's statement.
According to Sue Kim, Valspar's color marketing manager, these shades are for everyone. "Valspar's 2023 Colors of the Year are usable shades that encourage self-expression and anyone can envision in their space," she said. "With our 12 colors to choose from, you are guaranteed to find a color that is picture-perfect for you!"

According to the Valspar team, the entire collection is defined by "restorative" hues. Take the Valspar Holmes Cream 3004-10B, pictured above, for example. This color is meant to represent joy; it has a yellow undertone, is "dependable," and includes "uplifting qualities." On the other hand, Flora 5004-2C, pictured below, has more depth—and plenty of "charm and sophistication."
Ultimately, the palette has plenty of range: It features grounding neutrals, from a comforting white [Cozy White 3008-10C] to a soft blue [Rising Tide 6005-1B], and bolder, statement-making shades, including a moody teal [Everglade Deck 5011-3] and a pink-red that borders on terra-cotta [Southern Road 1006-9C].
