WRTV's Brad Brown has a preview of the 2024 NBA All-Star game as Indianapolis is 500 days out from hosting.
INDIANAPOLIS — Tuesday marks 500 days until the NBA All-Star 2024 game starts in Indianapolis.
The 2021 game was canceled by the pandemic, which moved back Indy's successful bid.
The final phase of the interior upgrades at Gainbridge Fieldhouse is almost complete.
In addition to the game, there's also a new public art project, Hoosier Historia, which will invite people across Indiana to vote on their favorite high school basketball people, moments, places, and stories.
A diverse group of artists from across the state will design and paint their interpretations of the highest-ranked moments on 6-foot basketball sculptures that will be displayed downtown during NBA All-Star 2024 Weekend. Artists can sign up online to get more information.
"Why we do so much better than a lot of other cities is that it's more than just the event that comes. It's the legacy to our community, it's involving the entire community, it's creating things for everyone to be a part of," Mel Raines, board president of All-Star 2024, said. "Whether you're in the building when the actual All-Star game takes place, you have an opportunity to be a part of that weekend in some way."
The Pacers open the new NBA season at home on October 19.
On October 9, the Pacers are hosting their annual FanJam at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Beginning at noon, there will be a live scrimmage, appearances by the Pacemates, Boomer and the Power Pack and more.
Fans must reserve free tickets online. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the first 5,000 fans in attendance to FanJam will receive a free Pacers t-shirt, along with a food voucher for one hotdog,
bag of chips and a 12 oz. Pepsi product.

The NBA and the Indiana Pacers announced November 25 that NBA All-Star in Indianapolis, which was originally scheduled for Feb. 12-14, 2021, will now be held Feb. 16-18, 2024. Public health conditions prevented the Pacers, the NBA All-Star Host Committee and the NBA from appropriately planning and executing fan-focused All-Star activities in Indianapolis that were envisioned for this February.
The 2024 NBA All-Star Game will take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Pacers, on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024. Plans for a revised NBA All-Star 2021 will be announced at a later date.

NBA All-Star 2024 in Indianapolis will follow Cleveland in 2022 and Salt Lake City in 2023 as All-Star host. The 2024 game will mark the second NBA All-Star in Indianapolis, which hosted the midseason classic in 1985.
