If you think steam has a lot of negative reviews, you ought to check out metacritic.

Why would you even care? Just give it a try, if you don't like it, you can refund.

I personally will trust user reviews before major reviewers as most of them have become paid shills anyways. Then again, you've got to look at both sides of the coin. Rabid fanboys will defend anything because that's just what they do. Then you have the trolls on the other side who just S*** on anything and everything but you can typically spot them very easily.

As for F4, overall it's a great idea but it is flawed in a lot of aspects. The bugs and glitches are pretty bad but not to the point where the game is unplayable. The main complaint I see a lot is the FPS drop in certain areas of the game. The dialog is an issue, I don't know who the heck thought the bioware dialog wheel was a good idea and voice acting limits you to only being the good guy. This is one thing that generally made people like New Vegas over 3. In the actual lore of the Fallout series, other than saving your own vault you're free to do as you please. Where in F3 and now F4 you're forced to be the good guy who aligns himself with the knight in shining armor brotherhood of steel. Which if you actually know anything about the games lore, the BOS weren't nice guys, they were D****. They were out for advanced weapons and tech and if you had some or got in their way, they would waste you and take what they wanted.

But on the otherside, the crafting system in this game finally gives all the junk lying around some purpose, you can build a base in real time and decorate it as you wish. The gunplay and enemy AI are enhanced and much more enjoyable than they were in 3 or NV. There's more stuff to list on both sides but this has gone on long enough.

User reviews have their points.

Don't brush off information as useless just because someone else tells you to.

The good user reviews are the one that tend to be long, articulate, and clear. Particularly, you will see those type about a week after a game is released. Why? Because those players put in hours into playing and explain their opinion nicely.

This game is the best 10/10. Best story. Awesome combat..etc. Like that's the first 5 hours of the game. You can't possible know how that will evolve as the game progresses. //www.metacritic.com/game/pc/fallout-4/user-reviews?sort-by=score&num_items=100 Look at the first initial wave of user reviews. ALL HIGH.

Professional game reviews are completely useless. Reviewers aren't allowed to score games below a threshold if their publisher advertises with the publication.

User reviews are often some combination of fawning rubbish and vitriolic screed, but they're more useful than the alternative if you can be bothered sorting through the dreck.

There are more negative reviews on Steam than any of the three versions of Fallout 4 on Metacritic.

The ratio of positve to negative reviews on steam for fall out is something like 1:5. On Metacritic it's like 1:1.1

I was reading some of the negative reviews and I come across 2 things.
  1. People complaining it's not Fallout 1 or 2. Fallout hasn't been like that for 3 games now I don't know why they'd expect it to be.

Yeah, I get soooo tired of the Fallout 1 and 2 "purists," partially because a lot of them are just posers. As in: they're posing as original Fallout snobs so they can feel cool and get internet points from those they interact with. It's truly a phenomenon. Any sequel in a game series is going to be beset with critics for myriad reasons. But some people just live for that moment that they can say "Well in Fallout 1 and 2, such n such was like this, and Bethesda ruined everything, and I prefer when it was like that because I am a true Fallout purist and part of an elite club, while you are just a sheeple who likes Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4 because you have no taste and don't know what true Fallout games are supposed to be."

Here's how to tell if a review is more credible:

  1. Lists and explains why the game is good/bad. Not just blindly hating/praising it.

Fallout 4 generally hovers around the 8/10 score on average across reviews. The PC gamer review kinda explains it nicely, so does SuperBunnyHop's video review.

It's 81% positive on steam, so 4 positive reviews for every 1 negative. Metacritic being ~1:1 doesn't mean too much when there are several times more reviews on Steam than all the Metacritic user scores for all three versions of the game combined.

Seems like the negative reviews are based on expectations and not really the game itself. Most of the negative reviews have 60-100 hours played, so even though these people are complaining they wake up and play FO4 pretty much whenever they can.

How do I fix Fallout 4 on steam?

Press the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys at the same time to open the Task Manager window. Step 2. Under the Process tab, select all the Fallout 4 and Steam client, and then click the End task button at the bottom. Now, you can try launching the game and see if the Fallout 4 not launching issue is resolved or not.

Is Fallout 4 a demanding game?

According to GamersNexus, Fallout 4 uses a little under 3 GB of video RAM at 1080p with Ultra settings, but even many 2 GB graphics cards can handle the game at around 50+ frames per second [FPS] on 1080p Ultra. Thankfully, Fallout 4 is still very playable in the 45+ FPS range, which we consider “smooth.”

Is Fallout 4 still a good game?

Totally still worth playing and will get you familiar with a lot of the functionality in Starfield. 100% this game is amazing and super fun to play, couldn't recommend it enough.

Is Fallout 4 a success?

Fallout 4 received numerous awards and nominations from gaming publications such as GameSpot, GamesRadar, EGM, Game Revolution, and IGN. The game received "Game of the Year" awards from the 19th Annual D.I.C.E.
