Is it possible to replace laptop speakers?

Hopefully this isn't out of the area of expertise for you guys. The stock speakers on my laptop are crap and I'd like to swap them out with quality ones.

I'm able to disassemble my laptop and replace the components, but don't know how to find good quality aftermarket laptop speakers, if such a thing exists. Does it?

My machine's a Toshiba Satellite e105-s1402, the speakers are about 1"x.5".

EDIT: I found that later models use Harman Kardon speakers, if I bought an OEM pair would I have to splice wires to install them? Do they all use the same connectors where they attach to the board?

I own a Lenovo Ideapad 100-15IBD. Everything about it is perfect except for one thing. The speaker [yes it's mono]. It's weak as hell. The deal is I have. A lot of space inside for a different one. i don't expect it the sound to be "dolby atmos" level or something. I just need it to be more powerful and not as lackluster. I know it can't get stereo because it only has two pins.

Has this even been attempted before?

I'll be extremely thankful if any of you guys have recommendations for a suitable speaker to go inside. I know this laptop top to bottom and inside. Secondary hdd cady, replaced the dc jack, fixed some keyboard problems the secondary owner thought were permanent. If the connector doesn't match I'll just hack it off the old one and solder it to the new one. Anything goes wrong, I solder it back so no problem here. I just need it to be about the same height but larger width. Thanks in advance!

P.s. The speaker is truly bad. I tried to clean it and it mildly impoved the sound quality but not by much.

Well, the topic says most

I normally don't want to risk my equipment by modding it, but I can't kill much here cause the speakers are unuseable right now. I own a fujitsu-siemens laptop and they have the cheapest speakers I ever listened to. Alone from this I shoulda bought a toshiba... oh well. Is there a way to replace these speakers with ones you can actually listen to? Power isn't much of concern cause if I need the energy I won't use speakers anyway. I just don't want to drag my cheapo sony portable speakers everywhere with me, and they sound only a bit better anyway... So, what are your suggestions.. is it possible, is it risky, is it expensive?

Thanks for the replies

Laptops are rather proprietory devices and space inside is rather limited. It might be hard to find speakers which have the exact same dimensions AND mounting holes. I don't think it's worth it trying to replace them because there's only so much quality you can get out of such speakers in such an enclosure. I don't think they optimized the location, material, and size of where driver is for sound quality but just for convenience.

My advice to you:- Use your own ears as everybody's hearing and preferences are all different.

You have no idea how really bad and quiet they sound. I could put a pair of MX500 earbuds in there and have a better sound...

It could be quiet because the amp for them is weak. In that case, I don't know if using a more sensitive driver would make much difference.

Well if you aren't afraid, you can always go and poke around inside.

Most laptop speaker implementations are just a shade better than having bare speakers laying on your desk. Much of the sound of a speaker system is influenced by size of the speaker and enclosures. There is a limit to what can be done in the tiny space allocated to internal speakers.

You'd be better served with a travel amp like the Mint and a good but inexpensive pair of headphones like the Koss Portapro.

Wow this has been here for more than 10 years. I have the same question today. I have a dell XPS 15 2 in 1 but the speakers are just such disappointment for a flagship laptop like this. I wonder if we can put maybe hp's speakers inside cos my hp spectre x360 15 has such incredible sound for a laptop.
