La Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil ($18.99) is a new gentle foaming body and facial cleansing oil that promises up to 24 hours hydration and aids in alleviating dryness. As you know I did a Cerave Hydrating Foaming Oil Cleanser Review recently and I enjoyed that formula but it was not a cleansing oil and didn’t quite lather up enough! Both the La Roche-Posay and the Cerave formulas launched at the same time so, of course, I purchased both to compare the two!

La Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil arrives in a pump jar that’s 13.5 oz in size an $18.99. The formula is fragrance-free and water and glycerin based. The formula does lack a lot of what CeraVe packs into their Hydrating Foaming Oil Cleanser. For comparison, CeraVe Hydrating Foaming Oil Cleanser is 12 oz and $17.99. This formula is also fragrance-free also, is a water and glycerin base, and can be used on your face and your body just like the La Roche-Posay one. The main difference between the two is Cerave has a lot more ingredients including three types of ceramides. Both have a light, runny consistency but the Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil can pass for an oil more than the Cerave version in my opinion. Which would I choose if I had to buy one or the other? Both are gentle, work great in a double cleansing routine, and didn’t dry my skin out but I liked the Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil a lot more. It lathered up a bit more, it felt a bit more oily, and I just liked the overall texture of it and felt like it got my face cleaner than the Cerave version.

Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil formula is a light, runny clear oil-like gel. It’s not quite an oil which can be confusing considering the name. It also doesn’t work like your standard cleansing oil as it is meant to be used on wet skin not dry. So, in the end, I just think of it as a lighter gel cleanser and NOT an oil. Likewise, for the Cerave formula.

As I said above this is fragrance-free and is meant for both body and face. I didn’t use it on my body nor would I because it just doesn’t lather up enough and I like something that lathers. It’s odd I guess but the rich lather just makes me feel cleaner. On my face, it produces a very low lather as well but a lot more compared to the Cerave version that’s for sure. It’s very, very gentle. This won’t strip your skin, won’t leave you feeling tight, and they even recommend using it on babies or children due to the really no-nonsense formula.

I wouldn’t really buy into the 24-hour hydration claims. My face felt nice and smooth after use but I wouldn’t say it left me feeling hydrated! Granted, I didn’t feel dry but it didn’t add any moisture. And I’m fine with that so long as I’m not left feeling dry! I use it in a double cleanse because it won’t get harder to remove SPF and makeup. I’ll start with a cleansing balm or cleansing oil and follow up with this on my second cleanse. It’s so gentle that I can easily use it in that routine without the fear of it stripping my skin.

I absolutely will buy this again! I thought it was lovely and I was very happy with the way it performed in a two-step cleanse. If you don’t wear a ton of makeup it might do as a basic face wash but as someone who does wear a lot of SPF and makeup, this doesn’t cut as my sole cleanser! It will work nicely in the AM though as a gentle way to clean my face in the shower.

La Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil is a very nice, gentle cleanser. If you have drier skin or problem skin this is a nice little cleanser!

Can I use La Roche

The La Roche-Posay Lipikar Huile Lavante AP+ Body Cleansing Oil felt absolutely amazing. I use it on my face and body and have found it to be incredibly gentle on the skin. The oil turns into a foam whilst using which is a feature that I love.

Are cleansing oils worth it?

Oil cleansing, on the other hand, can help balance the skin and lock in hydration. Using oils instead of traditional soap or detergent cleansers can also help protect the natural lipid layer of the skin and the “good” bacteria that live there.
