PhD Dissertation Defense - Sultan Alshareef

Mechanical Engineering A Doctor of Philosophy Dissertation Defense Entitled.   Numerical Investigation on Novel Microscale Convective Heat Transfer Enhancement Methods   By. Sultan Alshareef   Monday 30 January 2023   Location.   MEK Room 2660 and Zoom Zoom Meeting ID. 917 0643 3190 Meeting Password [For Zoom Only].  385248 Time.  08. 00 AM   Committee Members. Dr. Timothy Ameel [Chair] Dr. Todd Harman Dr. Rob Stoll Dr. Mathieu Francoeur Dr. Philip Smith   Project Summary A numerical investigation of novel meso- and micro-scale convective heat transfer enhancement technologies in the laminar flow regime is conducted. The first technique uses a novel pin fin shape that incorporates a slot in conventional circular cylinders. The addition of the slot substantially increases the heat transfer surface area and introduces an additional flow path at the center of the pin fin. The slotted pin fins not only improve the thermal performance but also significantly reduce the pressure drag. A maximum thermal enhancement of ~ 70% is predicted in add… Campus Wide Event. Yes. A SCALABLE FRAMEWORK FOR THE PHYSICAL DESIGN OF TILEABLE FPGA ARCHITECTURES Field Programmable Gate Array [FPGAs] are widely used in many modern applications with low power to high-performance requirements, which demand architecture customization, hardware-software co-optimization, and shorter development time. A retargetable FPGA framework like Verilog-to-Routing [VTR] enables customizable FPGA modeling with adaptable pack, place, and routing algorithms. However, the physical design of such customized architectures is mainly unexplored and relies on power and area estimation tools. This dissertation develops an extensible semi-custom design framework, OpenFPGA-Physical, for floorplanning and physical implementation of… Room Name/Number. MEB 2109. Cost. Free. Campus Wide Event. Amir Haji-Akbari, Yale University

Chemistry-Seminars Physical Chemistry Seminar at the University of Utah Title.  Too small is never too small. Utilizing advanced path sampling techniques to probe the kinetics and mechanism of rare events, from atmospheric ice nucleation to ion transport by Amir Haji-Akbari, Yale University Join Zoom Meeting https. //utah. zoom. us/j/93489384723 Meeting ID. 934 8938 4723 ABSTRACT. More often than not, scientists are challenged with the daunting problem of measuring or computing astronomically small quantities that are related to the occurrence of rare events. A phenomenon is called a rare event when the amount of time that elapses before its occurrence is orders of magnitude longer than the time needed for its completion. Rare events are ubiquitous in nature and span a wide range of phenomena such as earthquakes, telecommunication and power grid failures, protein folding, genetic mutations, and crystallization. Capturing the statistical nature of such events is key in many applications, including materials synthesis, climate… Event Categories. Seminars. Campus Locations.
