About

Spell "Kid Among Us" Backwards or Kid Amogus Backwards refers to a series of videos in which one character asks another to spell "kid Among Us" backwards, a reference to the video game Among Us, to which the character responds "sug on ma dik," falling for the prank. The first video using the joke was uploaded to YouTube in early August 2021, inspiring a number of new variations on it over the next few days. "Kid Among Us" is notably not "sug on ma dik," backwards, but "sug no ma dik."

Origin

On July 29th, 2021, YouTuber[1][2] Meme Zee posted a video depicting Mario from Super Mario Bros. pranking his brother Luigi, asking him to spell "TunaSub" backwards (shown below, left). Luigi does so, saying "bus a nut" and falling for the prank. The video gained over 289,000 views in two weeks. On July 30th, they posted a similar video in which Sonic from Sonic the Hedgehog pranks Eggman into saying "Stun Seeds" backwards, making him say "deez nuts" (shown below, right). The video gained over 65,000 views in a similar span of time.

On August 5th, Meme Zee[3] posted a video in which the Amogus StoneToss character pranks Mario into spelling "kid amogus" backwards, pranking Mario into saying "sug on ma dik," followed by Mario criticizing the Amogus meme, gaining over 176,000 views in four days (shown below).

Spread

Over the next few days, numerous videos were uploaded to YouTube following the style of Meme Zee's. On August 7th, 2021, YouTuber[4] Arcade Assassin posted a new video using the same format in which Mario convinces Luigi into spelling "Kid Among Us" backwards, gaining over 80,000 views in two days (shown below).

On August 8th, YouTuber[5] Long Toenails posted a similar video in which SpongeBob from SpongeBob SquarePants asks Patrick Star to spell "Among Us" backwards, followed by Patrick denying being an impostor and SpongeBob killing him with "information overload," gaining over 219,000 views in a day (shown below).
