I have decided having an at home Fax option is a good thing, getting tired of sites offering a trial of a couple of fax pages. Also don’t really want to trust my info traveling via a third party. So I am looking at modems something movable and not needed to be plugged into my MB. This is what I am thinking about:

Lenovo External USB 56K Modem 43R1815 – Conexant D400

Cheap and seems adequate but not rated for win 10. Are there drivers built in to Windows that would allow this to function? Would I need to hunt for software as one reviewer did? Windows Fax and Scan should be good enough for my occasional use.

  • Paul T AskWoody MVP It seems W10 doesn’t play well with fax modems – updates tend to remove the driver – and nobody does a W10 version. Given the cost you can just get one and see how it goes. To install the driver you may need to turn off driver signing. More on using Fax and scan: https://faxauthority.com/windows-10-fax/ cheers, Paul 1 user thanked author for this post.
  • wavy AskWoody Plus Thanks Paul I see I may have another obstacle , VOIP can scramble the Fax signal. I have Fios which seems to be Voip. At worst if windows 10 did not work I could have tried a W7 VM but the scrambling would be a deal breaker. I will investigate and return. • wavy AskWoody Plus I am gonna pass on the purchase for now. I drag out my old Gate way laptop which IIRC has a modem. I ended up using FreeFax. 🍻 Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.
  • EP AskWoody_MVP fax modems have gone by the way of 3.5 inch floppy disks – very seldomly used nowadays

I have a fax build-in my AIO Laser printer. A phone cable from the printer is connected to my router.
