FAS/Canada forecasts Canada's wood pellet production to decline by six percent in 2023 as a result of closure of pellet mills, reductions in allowable cut, and a high activity wildfire season.

Figures 9.6 and 9.7 show the largest net importers and exporters (by value) of forest products in 2016. This covers trade in roundwood, sawnwood, wood-based panels, wood pulp and paper and paperboard. Values are expressed in US dollars.

The UK was the second largest net importer (imports less exports) of forest products in 2016, with net imports of US $8.0 billion (Figure 9.6). The largest net importer in 2016 was China (US $27.1 billion).

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - International Forest Products LLC (IFP), a member of The Kraft Group of companies headquartered in Foxborough, Massachusetts, has earned the 7th spot among the Top 100 U.S. Exporters in 2021, according to the annual rankings published by The Journal of Commerce.

IFP, a forest products commodities trader, earned the ranking by exporting 86,895 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2021. TEUs are a standard measurement of containerized ocean shipping. The top 100 rankings are based on data from PIERS, a Journal of Commerce sister company, and other industry sources.

“Against the background of unprecedented global supply chain issues, achieving this ranking is a credit to our dedicated worldwide staff,” said Daniel Kraft, IFP’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our international team is committed to supporting IFP’s wide network of loyal customers and suppliers with customized solutions, and I am proud of our continued growth and success in an ever-changing market.”

These data cover roundwood, sawnwood, wood-based panels, pulp and paper for selected years. Production data for over 60 items are in volume (1000 cubic meters or metric tonnes), trade data are available in volume and value (1000 $). Geographic coverage includes over 40 countries in Europe, North America, Caucasus and Central Asia.

Cooperation on forestry statistics is long-standing. It is designed to lighten the burden for reporting countries and to assist international organizations in producing consistent data.

In forest products information the Intersecretariat Working Group on Forest Sector Statistics coordinates the Joint Forest Sector Questionnaire amongst the 4 participating organizations: ECE/FAO, Eurostat, ITTO and FAO. Each of the organizations is responsible for circulating the questionnaire to those countries for which it is responsible. Results of the questionnaire are provided to the partner organizations as needed. Each organization publishes these results according to its mandate and needs.
