Will 2023 Ram be redesigned?

A variety of updates are coming for the 2023 Ram 1500 and HD trucks, including a new special edition, available digital display and a lot more. 

Both trucks will continue to be offered in a variety of trims, cab and bed configurations, and all the powertrains are carryovers from the prior model year. Sorry, no Hurricane I-6 engine yet for the half-ton trucks.

What’s new for the 2023 Ram 1500?

Starting with the 1500 models, there is a new edition, the return of another edition, a 12-inch frameless digital gauge cluster and some smaller changes.

First, the 2023 Ram 1500 Limited Elite Edition is now available. This comes with the multi-function and locking tailgate, tailgate ajar warning lamp, deployable bed step, four adjustable cargo tie-down hooks, a bed extender and a cargo divider. Inside, a jeweled rotary shifter, unique instrument cluster theme, premium leather bucket seats, heated and ventilated 12-way driver and front passenger seats, suede headliner, heated steering wheel and a bright pedal kit are included.

Next, the Ram RED Edition returns for 2023 and is available on Limited Crew Cab configurations with both the V-8 and EcoDiesel engines. These trucks feature red R-A-M spelled out in the grille, door badge and console lid badging. This truck is sold as part of Ram’s efforts to provide $4 million to the Global Fund to help fight health emergencies with (RED).

Also, there is a new 12-inch digital gauge cluster available with two dozen different menus. All cluster settings are saved to a user profile and the driver can choose between an analog or digital display to appear on the new cluster. Note, no photos at this time.

The 2023 Ram 1500 Rebel will now include Selec-Speed control as standard equipment. This system uses hill-ascent and hill-descent control to regulate vehicle speed when climbing up or down a slope. It is part of the available Back Country Package (Big Horn/Lone Star) and off-road group (Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Longhorn and Limited).

Small changes include adding an Emergency Vehicle Alert System (EVAS) to 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen systems as well as the rear-seat reminder system to alert drivers that they may have left something or someone in the rear cabin. 

Plus, there is a new LED hitch lamp located in the tailgate handle to illuminate the receiver hitch area at night.

Then, there is a new 22-inch all-terrain tire available with the Off-Road Group on Ram 1500 Laramie, Longhorn and Limited models.

Finally, the Ram 1500 glove box features a UV light engaged through a button on the center console. When pushed, the UV light will start a three-minute hygiene cycle that kills bacteria.

2023 Ram 2500/3500 changes

For the Ram HD trucks, the changes focus mostly on towing, but like the 1500, it also gets the new digital gauge cluster. 

The 2023 Ram 2500/3500 trucks now come with a new digital rearview mirror with side camera integration as an available option. This turns the rearview mirror into a digital display using the camera mounted near the chisel lamp on the top of the rear of the cabin. You can flip a switch and turn it back to a traditional mirror as well. Note, if you put a topper on your truck, this mirror won’t function since you cover up the camera with the truck topper.

Then, borrowing a page from its rivals, a new Trailer Reverse Steering Control is available. This simplifies backing up a trailer with a new turn dial allowing you to simply turn it in the direction you want to go. The truck takes over the steering wheel and basically instead of remembering to turn right to go left, for example, you turn the dial in the direction you want to go and the truck turns the steering wheel for you.

There is also a new Mopar sport performance hood available on Laramie and Limited, and “next-generation” trailer tow mirrors with telescoping capability are now available across the lineup. The telescoping capability has long been on the wish list for Ram customers.

Finally, the 2023 Ram HD trucks have several camera system enhancements with new Trailer Tow pages app, multiple view modes, behind-tailer view and blind-spot view. 

The bottom line

While this isn’t a ground-up redesign — or even a significant refresh — these are significant improvements for a vehicle that took the truck world by storm back in 2019. We can’t wait to see these improvements in person — including that jeweled rotary shifter.
