Quicktime Events have been both a blessing and a curse. When used correctly and with purposes, they can be incredibly immersive and can help you dive headfirst into the game, but when used for the sake of it, there is nothing worse than a QuickTime event.

Some QuickTime Events can show how powerful a person is without much input from the player, such as a fast fistfight. By hitting a Quicktime Event or otherwise known as QTE's, fights can happen in more or less real-time and be truly remarkable to see, but of course, the downside is that control is taken away from the player. Others might involve pressing a button repeatedly; however, if what goes on the screen afterward is genuinely amazing, then it's not a bad thing at all.

Towards the last section of the end of the game in Metal Gear Solid 4, there is an extremely long hallway that Old Snake has to crawl through. However, Old Snake has no strength left, his body is failing, and to get to this end of this hallway is a miracle at best, but behold a miracle which is called the player, as the player has to keep hitting the X button for about 5 minutes straight to achieve this.

For this, it's tough to tell which will cave; first, Old Snake's strength and body, or the player's thumb or patience. In all honesty, it's about a fifty/fifty split.

9 Until Dawn - Become Stationary

Top game have quick time events like gow năm 2024

The horror game Until Dawn gameplay is heavily infused with Quicktime Events, but the game is built around it. So these QTE's have a lot of consequences that happen because of these, as the story has multiple endings because anything could happen. A lot of the events that occur rely on a quick choice to be instantly made by the user, however, some QTE's rely on not moving the PlayStation 4 controller at all.

This specific QTE of not moving the controller happens at the worst critical moments, as it's more or less based on luck. The player might not have moved at all, but the controller picked up the slight movement, and as a result of this, the player died. It seems to have no leniency at all.

8 Final Fantasy 9 - Skipping Rope

Top game have quick time events like gow năm 2024

Technically this one is pushing the barrel, but this mini-game is entirely dependant on pushing the same button an exuberant amount of times to win some decent cards. Early on in Final Fantasy 9, there is a skipping rope mini-game, where Vivi, the black mage of the game, well goes skipping.

You might be thinking this is easy, but to get an achievement (on the later versions) or a key item that does nothing, Vivi has to skip 1000 times in a row. Just think of the pain caused for those who failed in the late 900's.

7 Resident Evil 4 - Knife Fight

Top game have quick time events like gow năm 2024

There is a pretty intense knife fight in Resident Evil 4, Leon vs. Krauser, and it's a battle of Quicktime Events, nothing more. This fight shows how QTEs can be incorporated into games to show action segments but slight input from the player. However, the cause of failure is more irritating than ever before.

The battle gets harder based on the difficulty, and as this fight is a cutscene, upon failing a button input, it ends in Leon's death and having to restart the entire scene from the beginning. Though not an overly long fight, it can become pretty annoying.

6 Indigo Prophecy - Memorizing QTE's

Top game have quick time events like gow năm 2024

This title was one of the first games created by Quantic Dream, and for its time, it was revolutionary, as it was one of the first games to have Quicktime Events based around the story, and they've carried on that tradition. Indigo Prophecy had a lot of QTE's that the player had to memorize, they weren't based on the timed button presses of games nowadays.

The user got shown a set of commands that then disappeared, and then they had to input the same commands in the same order, but because of how QTE's worked in Indigo Prophecy, by using the two analog sticks instead of the face buttons, it was much harder to memorize.

5 Star Wars Force Unleashed - Star Destroyer

Top game have quick time events like gow năm 2024

There is a point in the game where Starkiller uses the force to bring down an entire Star Destroyer, so it crashes into the planet below, which is a remarkable feat. However, how the game incorporated this was not. As this was a massive spaceship, of course, the developers had to make this a timely process, which makes sense, so holding a few buttons down for immersion was fine.

It was the segment that broke up this QTE that made this section horrible. At certain times Tie Fighters would interrupt Starkiller. If these weren't dealt with fast enough, the Star Destroyer would return to its original position, meaning the player has to do this process over and over again, which could easily take over 30 minutes.

4 Heavy Rain - Oncoming Traffic

Top game have quick time events like gow năm 2024

Heavy Rain is based around finding your son, which is an emotional story and an abundance of Quicktime Events that serve no purpose to being there. This game is a prime example of QTE being there just for the sake of being there, and sometimes having to do finger yoga poses to press some of the combined inputs.

However, there is one section, which is an excellent use of QTEs when the player has to drive on the one wrong side of the motorway during a challenge from the Origami Killer. If you can hit every prompt that appears, you can get the Kamizaze trophy, but if you miss a couple, this doting father's journey will end quicker than he hoped.

3 Shenmue - Fighting With Button Prompts

Top game have quick time events like gow năm 2024

Some times button presses can be used to incorporate a self of amazing fighting experience from the main character. Quicktime Events were added into Shenmue to make individual sections be more action-packed and to remove unnecessary fighting. However, to press some of the button prompts, the player has to have genuinely lightning-fast reflexes, as some disappear in a flash.

As a lot of the Quicktime Events, we're incorporated into a cutscene. This meant that if you failed the prompts multiple times, it would end in failure, which also means having to rewatch the entire cutscene again or replay the whole QTE action scene again.

2 Guitar Hero - Through The Fire And The Flames

Top game have quick time events like gow năm 2024

Once again, this might be pushing it, but it is a sequence of timed button pressed along with timed strumming. The premise of Guitar Hero is pretty simple, hit one of five buttons while strumming at the same time in time to the music.

Some songs are quite comfortable to play and use only three out of the five buttons and are slow-paced to get the timing correctly, and some songs are mind-blowingly difficult, which uses all five buttons. One prime example of this is "Through The Fire And The Flames" by DragonForce, which is rumored to be the hardest song in Guitar Hero 3. In total, it has 3,722 notes to hit and an average note per second of 8.54, which is crazy!

1 Final Fantasy 8 - Valve Hatch

Top game have quick time events like gow năm 2024

On the second disk of Final Fantasy 8, deep beneath Balamb Garden, there is a valve hatch that needs to be opened to progress through the story. Upon finding the hatch, Squall, the leader of this team, tries to open it first, and the player has to hit square repeatedly for 10 seconds to try and open it himself. To open this valve with Squall alone, square has to be pressed around 12/15 hits per second, and the last few seconds don't even count towards that goal.

For casual players thought that this wasn't even possible to do, and it holds no consequence because Squall gets one of his teammates to help with the valve making to entirely possible to do on the first try. However, for speedrunners, every second count, and this section can save vital seconds if opened on the first try, but it is almost nigh impossible to do so.
