The NHL® regular season begins on October 11, 2022 and runs for a full 82 games. It is preceded by the NHL® preseason, which starts up in late September, 2022 and continues into early October. On February 3–4, 2023, the season will take a break so players can participate in another fabulous 2023 Honda NHL® All-Star. The 2023 Discover NHL Winter Classic® will be returning this season, with the Pittsburgh Penguins squaring off against the Boston Bruins on January 2, 2023, at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. All-Time Stanley Cup® Winners Trophies Stanley Cup® PlayoffsAfter a hard fought regular season, the Stanley Cup® Playoffs are when teams lay it all on the line to secure their legacies for years to come — and this year will be no different. The Playoffs will feature four exciting rounds - including the quarterfinals, semifinals, conference finals and, of course, the ultimate round, the Stanley Cup® Final. These best-of-seven series will still have fans on their feet cheering for their favorite teams from both near and far. Last year’s thrilling Stanley Cup® Final saw the Colorado Avalanche dethrone two-time defending Stanley Cup® Champions the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in Game 6 to become the 2022 Stanley Cup® Champions. Stanley Cup® HistoryThe Stanley Cup® Trophy dates back to March 18, 1892, when Lord Kilcoursie of the Ottawa Rebels hockey club announced on Lord Stanley’s behalf that, “It would be a good thing if there were a challenge cup which should be held from year to year by the champion hockey team in the Dominion (of Canada).” Shortly thereafter, Lord Stanley purchased a silver cup measuring 7.5 inches in height and 11.5 inches in width. In 1893, the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association Hockey Club was awarded as the first champion of the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada. Today, the Stanley Cup® Trophy is the most prestigious award in the NHL®. Over the history of the Cup, the Montreal Canadiens have won 24 times, the Toronto Maple Leafs 13 times, and the Detroit Red Wings 11 times.
