Nike epic react element 87 review năm 2024

Despite every footwear brand's attempts right now to find the magic formula for a hit sneaker, none exists. It's especially true in the no-rules era of men’s kicks, where big and ugly or streamlined and sock-like are driving the market and good taste is the quickest way to torpedo any sneaker's cool factor. It’s the Wild Wild West out here. A case in point: back in February, a new amoeba-esque Nike sneaker made its debut on the runway as part of Jun Takahashi’s Undercover show in Paris. If you looked at the near-instant online reaction from sneakerheads and menswear enthusiasts, a soon-to-be hit sneaker was born . That sneaker turned out to be the Nike React Element 87—and it’s finally releasing next month.

A co-sign from a designer as revered as Takahashi added some serious fashion cred from the start, but this sneaker was destined to be a winner. The React Element 87 straddles the aesthetic line between timeless and of-the-moment, thanks to a silhouette that's familiar to anyone who's bought sneakers in the last twenty years executed in materials that lean heavy on the futuristic vibes. It’s almost as if an algorithm designed the shoe based on what continues to trend up in men’s sneakers: innovation and nostalgia. (It wasn’t though—the shoe comes to us courtesy of Nike’s special projects team, although some AI technology was used to produce the sole.) The ultra-cushy sole—similar to that featured on Nike’s Epic React—is new and improved, a blend of science and tech (and lots of bouncy foam) that makes for a comfortable feeling that’s built to last. In fact, Nike designed the shoe for the urban-dwelling commuter who walks everywhere, hence the need for all day comfort and as highly Instagrammable design.

As great as all the comfort tech is, it’s clear that many well-dressed dudes have gravitated towards this sneakers one other big reason, too: how it looks. The React Element 87 may skew futuristic, but it carries some design cues from the Nike Internationalist, a vintage running shoe that debuted back in the ‘80s. And that blend of old and new is exactly what today’s most stylish want to wear. The sneaker makes its debut in two colorways: a mix of beige and white with an oh-so-subtle use of red and a mostly black sneaker with a white sole. But sneakers feature an eye-catching translucent upper, just another nod to fashion’s current obsession with all things see-through. And given how the React Element 87 has already asserted itself as one of the year’s hottest sneakers before its actual release, you can bet we’ll be seeing more glassy kicks in the future.

The style of the shoe is reminiscent of the Nike Internationalist from the 80’s—hence the probable reference to the 87.

Underneath its futuristic aesthetic is the innovative React foam, which Nike introduced earlier this year. The foam is built into both the midsole and outsole of the shoe to deliver energy return and cushioning, which translates to extra bounce and cushioning. Underfoot, the sole is mapped out with geometric grooves and rubber pods; it’s a shoe with many layers for style and functionality.

React Foam outsole and midsole adds cushion for comfort.

Put all of these elements together, and what you get is a sneaker that resists fatigue, making it ideal for commuters, running errands and strutting catwalks. The overall construction of the Element 87 is designed for “the everyday athlete.” In short, the shoe is not made for speedwork and likely doesn't have a future entering any 26.2’s. But that’s not to say you can’t flaunt it in between workouts.

Limited Release

Models worked the Element 87 on the catwalk during Paris Fashion Week back in March, making sneakerheads wait with anticipation for the shoe’s launch later this year (it was released globally in June). But availability is a whole different story. Already sold out on the Nike website, your best bet is snagging a pair on eBay, or GOAT (good luck if you’re a men’s size 14, price tagged at a whopping $1,945).

The shoe comes in monochromatic tones called “Salt Light Bone” and “Anthracite Black.” Blue and orange editions are in the Element 87’s future, but alas, fans will have to wait even longer as these editions won’t be launched until 2019.
