Although I do have the Desert Sand colorway of these, initially I was quite skeptical of this shoe. The Nike React Element 87 Light Orewood fit true to size or a half size down depending on your foot shape. I’m able to pull off either and the shoes are very comfy either way thanks to that aforementioned React technology. This tech is definitely a serious contender for Boost. That said, at a half size down, I do feel these on the top of my big toe a bit, but not in a bothersome way. One thing to avoid is getting these too big, as it will become very obvious thanks to the clear upper.

Nike’s React cushioning system was unveiled and presented to the public as the next best foam cushion in performance. Now, the Swoosh says the foam was originally intended for lifestyle.

While the performance implementation has so far been lackluster, excluding the performance runners which are awesome, the lifestyle version of React is something that truly competes with adidas’ Boost.

Welcome to another jaw-dropping, heart-stopping, blood rushing, Patrician Review! It’s been almost two months since I last did a review. College essay season makes me want to never touch a keyboard again, but for the sake of sneakers, I digress. The long hyped-up former Undercover collaboration “Sail” colorway of the Nike React Element 87 dropped a month or so ago, and after spending some time with it, I have to say it’s a very impressive shoe. You know the drill by now; I judge sneakers by five very important criteria: Creativeness, Price, Quality, Appearance, and Meaning. Without further ado let’s jump right into it!

Creativeness: With Nike trying to take transparent material back into the spotlight, the 87 is a well-executed attempt at it. Unlike other deconstructed shoes *cough Off-White cough* the deconstruction on the 87 actually gives it a futuristic feel. The red stripe, clear holes on the outsole, and stitched laces make it seem like it came out of Blade Runner. It also maintains an old-style feel with the well-placed cork insole, grey leather, and velvety lace locks. Due to the new cushioning system, it’s also incredibly comfy to wear! It’s a very well designed shoe so I could see why it became a classic immediately. CREATIVENESS: 8.5/10

Price: For $160, this a very reasonable price. I would advise against paying resell for this model though, as I can see restocks and plenty of new variations in its future a-la Ultra Boost. PRICE: 7.5/10

Quality: The transparent material shows no rips after multiple wears, and still looks like it’s fresh out the box. Very comfortable and doesn’t get dirty easily like most other white shoes. QUALITY: 9/10

Appearance: While looking like it’s straight from 50 years in the future, this shoe comes off as incredibly sleek. The sail colorway is neutral enough that it can really go with anything, and the red stripe gives it the much-needed flair to differentiate it from a plain white pair of sneakers. You can wear this really with anything; just remember to wear some crazy socks with it! I recommend neon green or neon pink for added pizzaz. APPEARANCE: 8.5/10

Meaning: This sneaker manages to blend cutting-edge materials and design, while still maintaining a sense of familiarity with older Nike models. Nike set out to create a futuristic silhouette, while also keeping what makes Nike Nike, and they certainly managed to accomplish that. MEANING: 9/10
